Fluid Bloom - The Scarf

On the occasion of Maiwe’s fifth anniversary, we selected a piece from photographer Naomi Venetiaan’s latest series, called Feisty Shift. The artwork symbolizes movement, a reflection of the dynamic journey Maiwe has undertaken over the past years, and of nature itself, ever-changing and growing. Within the composition, one can subtly discern the shape of droplets, a graceful reference to the iconic rosehip oil that lies at the heart of every Maiwe product.

The piece was printed in Portugal on 100% silk, and designed into a scarf.

The Scarf was produced in collaboration with our dear friend Laura Cote, collection manager at Girls of Dust / Eat Dust, the Antwerp-based label that also represents Maiwe. Laura ensures that every piece in their collection is technically flawless, a true guardian of quality.

From a very young age, she has been fascinated by fashion. Laura’s grandmother, a Malagueña, firstly inspired the women in the family to create clothing from scratch. Moving to France as a southern immigrant family with seven mouths to feed, her grandmother sewed every single garment they would wear, right down to their underwear! At her turn, Laura’s mother Françoise purchased her first sewing machine when she was 16. The rest is history. After an initial formation in interior design, Laura travelled back to her family’s roots in Malaga to study textile design and later on came to Antwerp to pursue love and fashion. She has worked for several high end fashion labels in our city, but when she discovered Girls of Dust, something shifted in her. She had found her creative home, a clothing line that brings high quality and great design to real life, from trips to the park, bicycle rides and late nights at the bar.

There’s much more to Laura than fashion. I met Laura through my daughter Pippa and her son Edo. Our eyes met at the playground, two Spanish-speaking women, both chasing after a four-year old. Today, we’re almost neighbors and our children share a classroom every day. Over time, Laura has quietly become a pillar in my life: offering a hand when I couldn’t move during pregnancy, lending an ear when I needed one, and now, helping create something as quietly powerful as life’s biggest transitions.

Forever grateful for this ride that brings me along inspirational people, creative, caring souls who pour their hearts into everything they do.

Gracias por ser tu, Laura, por compartirme tu historia y por ayudarme a crear este homenaje a Maiwe.
